TEXTILES · THIKA, KENYA
Weaving on sunshine.
Kenya’s heritage fabric maker, weaving since 1968, put 1,840 modules across its Thika rooftops. Payback: 3.25 years.
The challenge
Textile manufacturing is power-hungry, and Thika Cloth Mills has been weaving cotton into cloth since 1968. Rising grid tariffs were eating margin on every metre of fabric, and the mill’s roofline was doing nothing about it.
TCM wanted real numbers, not promises: a system big enough to move the monthly bill, delivered without disrupting round-the-clock production.
The solution
Ariya delivered a 999 kWp turn-key rooftop across several roofs. 1,840 modules feeding two power rooms, commissioned in 2022 with genset integration and VCOM remote monitoring.
The result: KSh 1.8 million saved in a single November, a 3.25-year payback, and projected system-life savings of $5.94 million, while offsetting 1.52 kt of CO₂, the equivalent of planting 144,023 trees.
Impact & key figures.
“We have started making huge savings already. We made a saving of Ksh 1.8 million in the month of November.”
